A limited number of tickets are available and because of your support of the NACD Carolinas Chapter, the Chapter Board wanted you to be the first to receive a ticket prior to mailing to the entire membership.

                   Keynote address - Paula Loop, Leader of PwC's Governance Insights Center;


Paula will discuss the hot topics that should be on the minds of multinational board members. The strategic issues like shareholder activism, digital transformation and disruption, and key risks (connecting to the following geo-political panel discussion) while also making the point on board composition being fit for the future.  


Keeping up with the board's strategic agenda

Boards are dealing with a myraid of governance issues in today's fast-changing, complex and global business environment. They are doing so in an environment of heightened scrutiny from investors and other stakeholders. Activist investors are active in launching campaigns and driving changes at companies. Digital strategies and new technologies continue to emerge. Paula will share perspectives on the latest governance trends and topics and how boards are keeping up in a dynamic environment.

Speaker Spotlight


Paula Loop

Paula Loop is a partner leading PwC’s Governance Insights Center, which aims to strengthen investor confidence and provide resources for directors and investors addressing new and traditional challenges. She previously served as PwC’s New York Metro Regional Assurance Leader, where she led one of the firm’s largest assurance practices, overseeing audit quality, partner and resource deployment, and financial results. Prior to this role she was the U.S. and Global Talent Leader leading PwC’s global strategy in recruiting, onboarding and talent management, among other firm leadership responsibilities. With a passion for giving back to the community, Paula currently serves on the board of the PwC Charitable Foundation. Paula is a Certified Public Accountant and is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Mary Shelton Rose

An Advisory partner based in Charlotte, NC, Mary is the leader of the PwC US Brexit Response office. In this role, Mary leads a team of professionals focused on leading US-based Brexit activities and monitoring related developments. In addition to leading the Brexit Response office, Mary also serves as the PwC East Region Advisory leader. Mary has more than 26 years of experience providing business advisory and investigatory services to clients in the entertainment, media, communications, and technology industries. Over the course of her career, she has led or participated in consulting engagements involving entertainment content analysis and deployment, profitability analyses, industry/market research, financial modeling and forecasting, statistical analyses, valuations, licensing management and royalty examinations, litigation support, and transactional due diligence and structuring.

Jay Bryson

Jay Bryson is a managing director and global economist at Wells Fargo Securities, where he provides analysis on macroeconomic developments in the major economies of the world. He is based in Charlotte, N.C. Before joining the company in 1998, Jay was an economist in the Division of International Finance at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. From 1989 to 1992 he was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Alabama. Jay has also lectured on international economics and macroeconomics at the School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and at Georgetown University. Jay has published in academic and popular economic journals, and his comments on the economy regularly appear in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and USA Today. He also makes frequent appearances on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Jay is a member of the American Economic Association and the Charlotte Economics Club. He is also a member of the National Association for Business Economics and served on its board of directors from 2010 to 2013.

Scott Carlton

Scott Carlton has a strong international business background and extensive experience within the finance and accounting functions in a global public company. Since 2007, he has held the position of President of SGL Carbon LLC, Charlotte, North Carolina, a subsidiary of SGL Group, the Carbon Company, headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, a leading worldwide manufacturer of carbon-based products with 42 sites worldwide, including 11 in North America. From 2002 until 2007, Mr. Carlton served as Vice President of Finance and Controlling for the largest business unit of SGL Group, and in that capacity was responsible for the controlling, finance and accounting functions. Since beginning his career with SGL Carbon Group in 1994, Mr. Carlton has worked in a variety of accounting and financial positions at various locations within and outside of the US.
