Mark S. Beasley is the Deloitte Professor of Enterprise Risk Management and Director of North Carolina State’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative, which provides thought leadership about ERM practices and their integration with strategy and corporate governance. He served over seven years on the COSO board and served on COSO’s Advisory Council that helped develop the 2004 Enterprise Risk Management – Integrated Framework and its 2017 revision. is responsible for revising COSO’s 2004 ERM framework. Currently, he is serving on the United Nations’ Internal Control Advisory Group that is advising the UN Controller on COSO-based best practices related to internal controls. Mark is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and frequently works with boards of directors and senior executives on risk oversight issues. Mark has authored over 100 research articles and business publications and he is the author of a leading auditing textbook. Prior to joining NC State, Mark served as a Technical Manager in the Audit and Attest Division of the AICPA and as an Audit Manager in the Nashville, TN office of Ernst & Young. He received a BS in accounting from Auburn University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
Jewell D. Hoover is Secretary/Treasurer of AARP. She is a retired senior official with the United States Treasury Department. She worked for 28 years as a bank regulator and was a senior spokeswoman for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, serving as the Deputy Comptroller for the OCC’s Western District. She serves on the board of Fifth Third Bank where she chairs the Risk Committee and Board Member, Secretary/Treasurer for AARP in Washington DC. She also serves as Treasurer of the Board for Foundation for the Carolinas and on the Board of Advisors for the both the American Association for Bank Directors and the University of North Carolina's Center for Banking and Finance. She is a former member of the North Carolina Banking Commission and former Trustee for Wingate University. She resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
At Willis Towers Watson, Rob Yellen serves as the thought and product leader for directors and officers liability and fiduciary liability. In addition, Rob serves as a technical expert and claims resource on management and professional liability issues.
Rob joined WTW from AIG where, during his year tenure, he developed and drove execution of strategies for management and professional liability products, brands and underwriting. Before AIG, Rob worked for 10 years with D’Amato & Lynch focusing on complex management and professional liability claims and coverage issues.
Expertise includes insurance product design, complex claim resolution, restructuring, bankruptcy and transactional management and professional liability, pension/fiduciary risk and cybersecurity risk.
Rob earned a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law and Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics and Business Management from Cornell University. He is admitted to legal practice in New York, the District of Columbia and Colorado
Chris Gyves, Partner, Womble, Bond & Dickinson, advises boards and senior management of public companies on every-day and leading-edge issues in corporate governance, as well as their full spectrum of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Now retired, Jeff has over 35 years of domestic and international experience in Fortune 500, mid-cap and small-cap consumer products companies, as CEO, CFO, President, and VP of Strategic Planning. Most recently, he served as the Executive Vice President and CFO of ACH Food Companies, Inc., a Memphis, TN manufacturer, distributor and marketer of branded food products. Additionally, Jeff served as CFO of Springs Industries, Inc., a Fort Mill, SC manufacturer and distributor of textile home furnishings; and CEO and CFO of Pete’s Brewing Company, a Palo Alto, CA craft-beer brewer and marketer. He held various senior financial and operating positions, including VP of Corporate Strategic Planning at The Quaker Oats Co., a Chicago, Illinois food and beverage marketer and manufacturer in his 19 year career there.
Jeff now serves as Chairman of the Board of Stratas Foods, Inc., a JV manufacturer and distributor of edible oils and was recently chairman of the audit committee of Snyder’s-Lance, Inc.
